Investment Banking

Build the deal.

Explore how companies raise capital, acquire businesses and create value through transactions.

Role Description

Joining Bath Finance Society is a fantastic way to explore career paths in finance, build skills, and meet like-minded people. As the largest non-sports society on campus with over 2,000 members, we offer access to industry speakers, workshops, and networking opportunities that not only provide insight into the finance sector but also give you experiences to draw on in applications, e.g. cover letters, LinkedIn, HireVues, and interviews. Beyond the professional side, BFS is also a community. You will make friends across different years and courses, enjoy society-only socials, and be part of one of the most active and supportive student networks at Bath.
This entry-level role is open to all year groups and degree backgrounds, with first-years especially encouraged.
Investment Banking (IB) Analyst
We are looking for 12 Analysts to join our Investment Banking Division across three sector teams: Technology, Media & Telecommunications (TMT), Financial Services (FS), and Industrials & Energy (I&E). As an IB Analyst, you will be part of a deal-focused team covering M&A.

What the role involves:

  • You will work in a team of 4 analysts, working under a sector Head of Team
  • In your team, you will produce two full M&A deal reports over the year — one per term — analysing live transactions in your sector.
  • You will conduct company, industry and transaction research, critically evaluating the deal.
  • You will build valuation models, using financial statements to judge the purchase price.

What we are looking for:

  • Curious, analytical and interested in a career in finance
  • Strong academic record and eager to build skills in financial modelling, and M&A analysis
  • No prior finance experience required — we are running workshops covering the technical basics before interviews commence

What you’ll gain:

  • Exposure to real-world finance through collaborative projects.
  • Developed technical knowledge and Excel proficiency by building financial models.
  • Enhanced commercial awareness.
  • Engagement with like-minded peers

Recruitment Process:

  • Successful applicants will take part in a 30-minute interview
  • The interview has two parts:
  • A technical segment based on our technical sheets, accessible here:

  • A discussion based on a short article which will be shared following interview invitation.
  • No prior knowledge is required, and applicants are not expected to fully master the material.
  • The interviews are designed to be supportive, focusing on your ability to think through concepts and demonstrate understanding.
